October used to be peak autumn in Scotland and I expected my Braidburn pictures this month to be dominated by swathes of autumn colour. But, yet another sign of global heating is warmer autumns and most of the trees stayed green for most of October. The main exception to this were the rowans, which were very photogenic, as you can see from the images that I’ve selected this month.
The withered red leaves are the last remnants of the rowan foliage.

At the beginning of the month, there are still a few brambles available. Foraging for wild wood is becoming more popular But I reckon that this lady was picking brambles long before it was called foraging.

I liked this image of the single tree in autumn colours contrasted with the other green trees.

In the wildflower meadow, there are still a few flowers hanging on. In this image from my phone camera, I tried to pick out the cornflower blooms against the background here.

By the end of the month, the rowans are almost bare. I took this image of rowan leaves and berries just before the sun went down and I think it captures the faded beauty of rowan trees as they shut down for the winter.

As a naturally fairly unobservant person, one of the things I like about photography is that it makes me look more carefully at the world around me when I'm walking around. I suspect very few people have noticed this rowan that has seeded in the form of a tree.
